The 15th annual Riker Danzig Newport 10k race was attended by thousands, many of those actually competing in the race itself. One of those that competed in the event was Jersey City’s own Mayor Steven Fulop, The race took place across downtown Jersey City’s Newport area and continued along Exchange Place. Proceeds from the race will be donated to the Jersey City Mediacal Center (RWJ Barnabas Health).
The winner of this years race was Abinet Adraro, from Alburquerque, New Mexico, with a time of 29:53, followed closely by Zienasellass Futsum, of Flagstaff, Arizona, taking second place at 29:56. Kaitlin Goodman of Providence, Rhode Island, was the top female perfomer, completing the race at 34:12. A total of $15,900 in prize money was given to the winners. For those looking for high caliber race in the area, the 25th Annual Newport Liberty Half Marathon has begun registering runners for the race. The race will take place later on in the year, on Sunday, September 16 and will feature $3,000 in prize money.
