A 50-Story, 484ft residential tower has topped out at 65 Bay Street. The tower that is located in the Powerhouse Arts District of Jersey City will include 446 units, as well as other luxuries such as an indoor golf simulator, outdoor pool, and parking garages. The tower, which was developed by Humphreys and Partners Architect and designed by Kushner Companies and KABR Group, is set to open by 2017. 65 Bay Street is being built very close to the new URL Harborside Towers, which, when completed, will be the tallest residential building in New Jersey, with 99 Hudson St. not too far behind.

The building will use the the Trump name, as the Trump Organization is involved as a brand licenser. Ironically, a large amount of capital financing the building has come from Chinese investors. Trump has been very vocal against the Chinese in many speeches he has given during his presidential campaign. In a previous speech Trump stated, “They’ve taken our jobs, they’ve taken our money, they’ve taken everything.”

Author’s Take: This building is one of many structures changing the Jersey City skyline. This building, among many other just constructed or being constructed are altering the neighborhood and the surrounding areas. The tower is located in the Powerhouse Arts District so, although the tower looks modern, it is intertwined with other older looking buildings like the Hudson and Manhattan Railroad Powerhouse. The building is also in the vicinity of the New Port Mall area, several Light Rail stations such as Harborside and Harsimus Cove, and also the PATH Station, so I do not see the building having problems filling up once it’s completed.
